After an accident I went to a local attorney for help
in filing a claim. He told me to see a doctor about my continuing back pain.
At the office he gave me a card for a doctor he used himself. I went to the
doctor and received treatment for several months. The appointments became
less frequent as the time past with the doctor finally telling me that I had
improved to a point that I only needed to come to see him once and awhile if
I had discomfort. I was lead to believe that was all that could be done.
Being young I assumed that was what I was left to deal with on my own for
the rest of my life.
As soon as the doctor told me I
had finished the treatments, he sent a letter to the attorney and he
finalized a settlement from the insurance company. I was in and out of the
doctor and attorney’s offices within three months with check in hand. The
attorney told me I was lucky to get what he got for me.
It was not long after that I
started to feel my back hurting more and more. I got some extra treatments
again. After awhile the pain started to bother me again. This time I sought
out a different doctor who took an x-ray, something the first doctor never
did. I was told I had a compression fracture in my lower back. It had
obviously healed the best it could have but was causing problems and giving
me pain. I was now told that I will need continued treatment and some
decompression traction that may help the condition.
Now I see that I was put through
an assembly line at the attorney’s office. He got me to sign as a client,
sent me to his doctor; the doctor did his quick fix and sent me back to the
attorney for a quick settlement. Then the move onto the next victim for the
next settlement.
I can not go back to the
insurance company and get the right settlement, one that would cover my
actual injuries. The doctor misdiagnosis me therefore did not treat me for
my real injuries.
How does anyone get fair
treatment? And is there no recourse for people that are tricked like I was?
If nothing else, I hope this helps someone else so they are not victims of
poor doctors and assembly line attorneys. |
