My family and I were in an auto accident last year.
The driver of the other car was on a cell phone at time but when we told
the officer he never even wrote it down. The woman told the officer she
thought we had already merged into the intersecting road. The officer gave
her only a written warning and there was never any remark about her being
on the cell phone.
We knew she was on the cell
because she immediately jumped from her car and asked if any one called
the police, when we said someone was calling, she said okay and continued
to talk to whoever she was talking to. It was like we interrupted her
conversation.
If we have laws about cell
phones and have hands free laws why are they not adhered to? Why have laws
if they are not enforced? I can see that police have better things to do
than pulling everyone over if they are spotted talking on a cell phone in
traffic but when someone is in an accident and the police are already
there, and it is reported that the person causing the accident was on a
cell phone – why is nothing done?
My family got hurt and our car
was badly damaged. We had to pay for her mistake – or was it a mistake?
She clearly knows the law but willingly broke the law and caused an
accident in doing so.
I may not get any satisfaction
for her but, I would like someone to hear this and if they are in the law
enforcement profession, in a state that has cell phone laws, like a hands
free law, then I hope they will do something good from this story. Watch
for those using cell phones and do something about it, they could go
around the corner and hit someone while in deep conversation. Or if you
called to an accident and someone says the person that hit them was on a
cell phone, listen to that person and enforce the law.
