When your voice is heard here, it is our hope that officials, local, state and national will hear too and changes will be made.

Ag020801 I have a daughter that has Autism who got state adoption subsidy during the years before she was 18. My wife and I adopted my daughter and her brother, each getting subsidies during that period. When my daughter was a baby she had problems and by the time she was four it was very evident so she was tested, the state was aware of it because they paid for the medical. Over the years it was clear to whatever social worker we ever got to talk to that my daughter was handicapped to a point we concentrated much of our time and money on her because raising her was that difficult but no one from the state ever told us that we were eligible for the special tier of subsidies. It was not until she was 17 that I discovered that tier even existed. All those years had passed that my daughter qualified for it and we could have used it rather than go into debt but the state kept it a secret. It still does not make it publicly known that this tier exists so families here in CT go on being denied money due them to help their children because the state keeps this a secret. I would like to see the state give me the back money that I deserved to get all those years for my daughter. The money today could help me now since the money I spent during those years could have gone to my retirement fund, which now I do not have and I still am trying to take care of my now 19 year old daughter which any additional funds until I die would be mighty handy. thanks for listening.
